HOMETOWN > guatemala city, guatemala but he barely lived there

HEIGHT/BUILD > 5'8" / sturdy
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES > glasses. a pretentious tattoo (the golden ratio on his right chest). full beard. looks somehow both put together and perpetually unkempt. occasional hand tremors that worsen when he's fatigued/stressed/unwell. speaks english with an international school kid accent: generic american with hints of british inflection.

+ friendly, sympathetic, caring, gentle, adaptable, outgoing, creative

~ friendly, humour as a coping mechanism, keeping secrets is his default setting, particular, peculiar, loves 2 learn, bright

friendly, proud, prone to cabin fever, stubborn streak, a tad claustrophobic, is a little "will we ever succeed" about it all, hasn't gotten to Just Be Himself in a very long time and is struggling with the implications, just like. really tired.
THEIR STORY.
SYS | ADM
  • growing up everywhere. his family moved to a new country every 3–5 years due to his dad's career as a petroleum engineer and his parents' reluctance to return to a country embroiled in civil war; the regularity of packing up and moving became the rhythm that would lead the rest of his life. they began in latin america (venezuela, mexico), then saudi arabia, scotland, malaysia, and finally norway by the time dom was ready for college. he displayed a preternatural talent for languages that helped him acclimate to new environments. his parents were early adopters of the implants, saying they'd let their children make their own decisions when they came of age. although they were serene, the difference between pre- and post-implant was jarring to dom.
  • the fall happens when he's 24 and finishing up his M.Arch in zurich. he's forcibly chipped; it begins to fail within 6 months and he's met with memories that are way more evocative of the journals he'd kept growing up. he catches wind of someone on the black market who will disable his implant and says "yes please" — it's only ~60% successful, leaving him with mood swings and disorientation that he had to hide. these symptoms would develop and worsen over time.
  • dislinked: undercover. he's recruited to a burgeoning resistance in 2 AI and although his implant's now properly disabled, some side effects of the original procedure remain; instead of disclosing them, he conceals them. working undercover, he's part of a cell that infiltrates an Autonomous Corpus compound in the blue ridge mountains and helps extract a young man. after this, he declares he can't do full-ass undercover work anymore and shifts to a recruitment field agent.
  • dislinked: recruitment. his job as an architect has him move countries every few years and this allows him to integrate himself with local unveiled communities. he's already used to finding his way in new places and his talent for language is an indispensible bonus. he guides recently unveiled, recruits for dislinked, and helps move those who want a safer life into unveiled cities. he asked for a stint in laos to recuperate from the side effects of his stupid chip help the newly unveiled there and ends up in a bonded pair with maryle, unfortunately for both of them.
  • why he's in space now. tl;dr the side effects from his original implant deactivation became more severe over time and he slipped up hiding them one too many times. he's been deemed unfit for field duty. he doesn't know what his next steps are but he's arrived to the mnemosyne while they figure it out. living in a tin can makes him uneasy af.
BITS & BOBS.
SYS | ADM
  • DOES NOT WANT TO BE LIVING ON A SHIP THIS IS NO WAY TO LIVE
  • side effects from his initial, botched implant deactivation are classified as "neuoplastic aftershocks." symptoms include:
    • delayed emotional reactions to events and/or emotional over- and under-reactions, cognitive drift (losing track of a thought, needing notes and diagrams), hand tremors, headaches, fatigue/difficulty sleeping (but who doesn't have that these days?)
    • symptoms are not constant and, aside from the severity worsening when fatigued/stressed/unwell, are unpredictable.
    • he can still function normally but he's been deemed a liability in the high-stress situations required of field agents.
